Jackson Blake and Sean Walker each contributed a goal and an assist, helping the Carolina Hurricanes secure a 4-3 victory over the Minnesota Wild at Lenovo Center on Thursday. Andrei Svechnikov and Nikolaj Ehlers also scored for the Hurricanes, while Frederik Andersen made 21 saves.
“Blake is probably the one who needs the most credit for tonight,” Carolina coach Rod Brind’Amour said. “The one goal was all him, and the other was just a great pass.”
Matt Boldy scored twice for Minnesota, who had entered the game with a two-game winning streak. Filip Gustavsson stopped 23 shots for the Wild.
“They’re a high-pressure team. There were times I thought we handled it well, and there were times when there was another good team on the ice too,” Minnesota coach John Hynes said. “We got some looks in different segments of the game.”
Boldy gave the Wild an early 1-0 lead at 5:34 of the first period by tapping in a loose puck after Hurricanes forward Mark Jankowski accidentally slipped it past Andersen. The teams then scored three goals in just 52 seconds during a fast-paced 4-on-4 play.
Author's summary: The Hurricanes edged out the Wild 4-3 with strong offensive contributions and solid goaltending, overcoming Minnesota’s early lead and intense pressure to extend their winning form.
