Channel Nine is facing a significant change as much-loved weathergirl Livinia Nixon announces her surprise departure from 9News Melbourne. After twenty years of presenting the weather, Livinia has decided to step back to focus on her family.
Livinia, known for her bubbly personality, reflected on her decision:
“After 20 years presenting weather on 9News, I’ve decided to step back from this role. My sons will both be in high school and I want to be there to support them. It’s been a privilege to be welcomed into viewers’ homes for so long, but this is the right time for my family.”
She also spoke affectionately about how presenting the weather has influenced her life and career:
“Presenting the weather has shaped my life and career. I owe this role everything but this is the right decision for me. When I discussed it with our boys, they said ‘we’re pretty excited to spend more time with you, Mum.’”
Livinia first joined the Nine network in 1997 after winning over audiences during her time on Hey Hey It’s Saturday, where she appeared alongside game show veteran Daryl Somers. Despite stepping down from her weather role, she plans to remain with the network, continuing her presenting duties on popular travel programs.
She shared her enthusiasm about this new chapter:
“I’m thrilled to be staying with Nine and will be continuing my roles on Getaway and Postcards.”
