Striving for a third consecutive win, the Minnesota Wild twice held one-goal leads and managed to tie the game 3-3, but the Carolina Hurricanes responded each time to secure a 4-3 victory.
After a strong start in a challenging atmosphere, the Hurricanes adapted to everything the Wild presented. Matt Boldy ended his notable goal drought by scoring twice, while Brock Faber contributed his second goal of the season. Minnesota's special teams continued their solid performance but couldn’t stop Carolina’s rally.
“Unfortunately, we didn’t find a way to win the hockey game, but it was a hard-fought battle by both teams,” said Wild coach John Hynes. “They had pushes and surges, and we had pushes and surges. But, unfortunately, we weren’t the team to win it tonight.”
Filip Gustavsson added, “This is a really good team we’re playing against, and we’re matching up against them pretty good today,” noting that he didn’t make any specific adjustments to regain his rhythm as the game progressed.
With this loss, Minnesota’s record fell to 5-7-3, and they remain winless (0-6-1) when trailing after the first period.
This game exposed missed chances for Minnesota, who battled hard but couldn’t overcome Carolina’s continuous comebacks and resilience.
