9News Melbourne is preparing to say goodbye to one of its most popular faces this month. Livinia Nixon, the city's cherished weather presenter, will sign off on November 18 after more than two decades with the network.
Livinia Nixon first joined 9News in 1997 and has been the network’s main weather presenter since 2004. Now 50 years old, she surprised viewers with her announcement on Friday that she will step down from the role to focus on her family.
“After 20 years presenting weather on 9News, I've decided to step back from this role. My sons will both be in high school and I want to be there to support them. It's been a privilege to be welcomed into viewers' homes for so long, but this is the right time for my family.”
She explained that her decision comes as her children enter senior schooling years, highlighting the importance of being present for them.
“Presenting the weather has shaped my life and career. I owe this role everything but this is the right decision for me. When I discussed it with our boys, they said, ‘We're pretty excited to spend more time with you, Mum.’”
Although Livinia is leaving her weeknight weather presenting duties, she confirmed she will remain part of the Nine Network in other capacities.
