Senior Liberal Senator Sarah Henderson has voiced serious doubts about Sussan Ley's leadership amid growing internal debate within the Coalition concerning the net zero policy.
The Liberal Party faces increasing pressure to clarify its position on net zero emissions, especially following the Nationals' rejection of the policy. A decisive partyroom meeting is scheduled for Sunday, November 16, to establish the Coalition's final stance.
In an interview with Sky News Australia host Peter Stefanovic, Senator Henderson, who opposes the net zero policy, said that Ms. Ley is losing support within the party.
"I cannot support the way things are," Senator Henderson said. "I can't pretend things are good. We've had a dire Newspoll result, a primary vote of just 24 per cent. Things are not traveling well."
"I do have to say, really honestly, I do think Sussan is losing support, but I do believe in miracles, we can turn things around."
Senator Henderson emphasized her dissatisfaction with the current situation but held onto some hope for change despite the challenges facing the leadership.
