A dramatic moment unfolded in the Oval Office on Thursday when a drug executive collapsed during a press conference where President Donald Trump was announcing a major deal with pharmaceutical companies to reduce drug prices.
The event, focused on expanding access and lowering costs for obesity medications from Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk, was suddenly interrupted when an executive identified as Gordon Findlay, global brand director for Novo Nordisk, appeared to faint.
“Are you okay? Gordon, are you okay?”
These were the concerned words of Eli Lilly’s CEO, David Ricks, as he stopped mid-speech and turned toward his colleague.
Dr. Mehmet Oz, Administrator for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, immediately assisted Findlay as he collapsed. The President, along with Health and Human Services officials, looked on while staff called for medical help. Members of the press were escorted from the room as the situation was managed.
Approximately thirty minutes later, the conference resumed. President Trump gave an update, reassuring attendees of the executive’s improving condition and reaffirming the government’s commitment to lowering the cost of essential medications.
During a White House briefing on drug pricing, President Trump paused proceedings as Dr. Oz assisted Novo Nordisk’s Gordon Findlay, who had fainted but later recovered.
