An urgent recall has been issued for three tomato sauces due to the risk of contamination by Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium that can cause deadly food poisoning.
First and Last Bakery, LLC, recalled three popular tomato-based pasta sauces after concerns arose that the products were produced without an approved schedule to prevent bacterial growth, according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The sauces were sold via Big Y and potentially other retailers in Connecticut and Massachusetts from September 22, 2025. All jars bear a use-by date of September 26, 2025.
Although no illnesses have been reported, the risk of botulism—a potentially fatal food poisoning—prompted the urgent recall.
“Shoppers have been issued a stark warning that consuming certain jars of tomato sauce could prove fatal, posing a serious health risk.”
Consumers are strongly advised to return the affected sauces to the place of purchase for a full refund.
The FDA highlighted that these products were produced without an approved schedule, which means the safety protocols to prevent Clostridium botulinum formation were not properly followed.
Author’s Summary: An urgent recall targets three tomato sauces due to botulism risk, urging consumers to return the products immediately to prevent possible fatal food poisoning.
