Three tomato sauces urgently recalled over fears they may cause 'fatal' botulism

Urgent Recall of Three Tomato Sauces Due to Botulism Risk

First and Last Bakery, LLC from Connecticut has issued an urgent recall of three tomato-based pasta sauces amid fears they may cause fatal botulism poisoning.

Products Recalled

Distribution and Dates

The sauces were distributed in Connecticut and Massachusetts, including through Big Y and possibly other retailers, starting September 22, 2025. All items share a use-by date of September 26.

Health Risks and Recommendations

"Consuming specific jars of tomato sauce could be fatal."

Botulism is caused by toxins produced by Clostridium botulinum, a bacteria that attacks the nervous system and leads to paralysis. Although no illnesses have been reported so far, customers are strongly advised to return the products for a full refund.

"The sauces were manufactured without an adequately evaluated production process to prevent the formation of the dangerous bacterium," stated the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA), according to the Independent.

The risk comes from improperly processed acidified or low-acid canned foods, which can allow Clostridium botulinum to develop.

Consumer Advisory

Consumers who have purchased these sauces should not consume them and return them immediately to the point of purchase for reimbursement.
