Aimee Lou Wood On How Her 'White Lotus' Character Helped Her Deal With Body Dysmorphia, 'I Shook..'

Aimee Lou Wood on Overcoming Body Dysmorphia Through Acting

Aimee Lou Wood, an English actress and writer, began her career on stage and won the BAFTA Television Award for Best Female Comedy Performance for her role in Sex Education. She has also appeared in various shows and films such as Film Club, Toxic Town, Daddy Issues, The Electrical Life of Louis Wain, Uncle Vanya, and Living.

Using Her Character to Overcome Personal Struggles

Aimee revealed that playing her character Chelsea on White Lotus helped her manage her body dysmorphia. By focusing on what Chelsea wanted rather than herself, she found relief and enjoyment in her acting process.

"I shook myself out of it by thinking, 'It’s not about whether Aimee wants to show her body or not – Chelsea does.' Acting has always been a safe place for me to work out my feelings. I think for that reason a role will hit me in the heart, in the gut."

Mental Health Challenges and Acting's Impact

In addition to body dysmorphia, Aimee struggled with bulimia and social anxiety during her teenage years and was diagnosed with ADHD early in 2025. Speaking to Radio Times in September 2025, she shared how acting has positively transformed her mindset.

"I don’t need everyone to understand me. The people that get me, get me."
