The Toronto Blue Jays, coming off a World Series loss, face a critical offseason. With several key players entering free agency, the club might lose one of its cornerstones, shortstop Bo Bichette.
Bichette is expected to pursue a major contract placing him among baseball’s highest-paid shortstops. However, Toronto may hesitate to meet that demand, particularly given questions about his defense and the possibility of a positional change in the future. His offensive production, though, will attract strong offers from other teams.
If Bichette leaves, the Blue Jays will need to acquire another marquee player to join Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Analyst Rymer suggested a bold move involving Cleveland Guardians third baseman José Ramírez.
"The Blue Jays reportedly attempted to trade for Ramírez back in 2022," wrote Rymer. "They have gone on to bigger and better things since then, but they'll need to make splashes this winter if they want to maximize their odds of defending their AL pennant."
Rymer proposed that Toronto revisit talks with Cleveland for Ramírez. The deal would bring the seven-time All-Star and five-time Silver Slugger to Toronto, easing the impact of Bichette’s expected exit. In return, the Guardians would receive two top-100 prospects and a major-league-ready third baseman, Addison Barger, who excelled in his age-25 season.
Such a trade could immediately strengthen Toronto’s lineup while positioning Cleveland for a youthful reset.
The Blue Jays may offset Bo Bichette’s looming departure by trading for José Ramírez, a proven slugger who fits the team’s championship ambitions and long-term rebuild strategy.
