Brendan Fraser & Rachel Weisz In Talks To Return For New ‘Mummy’ Movie From Universal; Radio Silence To Direct

Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz May Return for New ‘Mummy’ Film

Universal Pictures is reviving its iconic action-adventure series The Mummy, with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz reportedly in discussions to reprise their roles from the beloved films of the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Sources tell Deadline that a new Mummy movie is in development at Universal, directed by the Radio Silence duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, from a screenplay by David Coggeshall.

While Universal Pictures has declined to officially comment, insiders indicate the script and story remain tightly under wraps. The film will be produced by long-time franchise figure Sean Daniel, along with William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein from Project X Entertainment.

Production Team and Collaborations

The project marks another collaboration between Radio Silence and Project X Entertainment, who previously revitalized the Scream franchise. Their work together included several entries leading up to, though not including, Scream 7, which Project X produced independently.

Additionally, Project X recently partnered again with Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett on Ready or Not: Here I Come, a horror sequel developed for Searchlight Pictures.

Legacy of the Original Films

Fraser and Weisz originally co-starred in The Mummy (1999) and The Mummy Returns (2001), both directed by Stephen Sommers. The two films, inspired by Universal’s classic monster franchise, each earned over $400 million worldwide and remain fan favorites decades later.

Author’s Summary: Universal is planning a new revival of The Mummy with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz in talks to return, directed by Radio Silence and produced by Project X Entertainment.
