It’s Not Too Late to Get Your Flu Vaccination

Somerset Council is reminding eligible residents to get their flu vaccination if they haven't done so already. The best time to receive the flu jab is during autumn or early winter, before flu begins to spread widely in the community.

Flu cases have already started appearing this year. Influenza is more serious than a common cold; it can increase the risk of severe lung and airway infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia, and can worsen existing health conditions.

Message from Councillor Graham Oakes

"Protecting yourself means protecting others. With flu already circulating, now is the perfect time for those who are eligible. It’s quick, safe and helps stop the spread to those most at risk."

Flu spreads easily and can lead to hospitalisation or even death in severe cases. Since the flu virus constantly changes, annual vaccination is recommended to maintain effective protection.

The NHS usually notifies eligible residents when they can book their flu vaccination appointment. If you have not been contacted but believe you are eligible, please reach out to your GP practice for advice.

Why Get Vaccinated?

Author’s summary: Early vaccination remains crucial as flu circulates; protecting yourself through vaccination helps safeguard both your health and your community’s wellbeing.
