Paden Ferguson, CEO of Padiano's Kitchen, shared how he and his partner managed to snag two of the viral Starbucks Bearista cups after camping outside a store early in the morning. They later discovered their store had stocked only two of them, which caused frustration among customers.
In October, Paden saw online announcements about Starbucks launching new holiday drinks and desserts, along with a special holiday bear cup featuring a green beanie and straw. The couple eagerly planned to buy one on its release day, November 6, assuming it would be simple to get.
However, the cups quickly went viral on social media, and it became clear that demand far outweighed supply. As the release approached, they decided to check how many cups would be available at their local stores to better plan.
On the evening of November 5, they mapped out five nearby Starbucks locations. Visiting the busiest one, they asked a barista about stock levels and were told there would be only seven cups available there.
“We asked the barista how many they had — seven, they said.”
The pair realized competition would be fierce and decided to line up early to ensure they secured one of the few available bear cups.
When they finally purchased the only two bear cups in stock, other customers were visibly upset that the supply was so limited. The scarcity only added to the cup’s viral allure online.
Author’s summary: A viral Starbucks bear cup turned a casual shopping plan into an early-morning quest as demand far exceeded supply, leaving many fans empty-handed.
