Chicago Weather Update: First Snowflakes Expected This Weekend

An incoming storm system will bring rain late tonight into early Friday morning. Most locations can expect around a quarter inch or less of rain before conditions clear around daybreak.

Friday Weather

Friday will feature mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies with highs in the lower 60s. Winds will strengthen throughout the day, gusting up to 30 mph from the west. It's a good day to enjoy the warmth before the cold sets in.

Weekend Temperature Drop and Precipitation

Temperatures will fall sharply this weekend. Saturday's highs will reach the upper 40s to near 50 degrees with rain arriving late morning or around midday. Showers are expected through the afternoon and evening.

As temperatures drop Saturday evening, rain may transition to snow with little to no accumulation, though grassy and elevated surfaces could see minor slush.

Sunday and Monday will be significantly colder, with highs only in the 30s. Lake effect snow showers are possible on both days, mainly over Northwest Indiana, but some rain or snow could reach northeastern Illinois if winds shift to the northeast.

Outlook for Early Next Week

Warmer air is expected to return by Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing milder conditions.
