A retired STARS air ambulance helicopter has arrived at its new permanent home in The Hangar Flight Museum in Calgary. The Airbus BK117, which began service in 1985, was among the first helicopters used when the non-profit air ambulance organization launched.
For decades, the aircraft conducted rescue and medical missions across Western Canada before being retired from active service. As part of the 40th anniversary celebrations, the organization shared the news with supporters and the wider community.
“Now, in our 40th year, this historic aircraft stands as a symbol of the remarkable contributions made by the community, for the community,”
More than 100 donors took part in a campaign that raised over $900,000 to support STARS operations. Their names have been permanently inscribed on the helicopter as a tribute to their generosity.
“An inspiring legacy that will help preserve STARS’ story for future generations,”
The Hangar Flight Museum expressed its gratitude for receiving the aircraft, emphasizing its importance in preserving the history of air ambulance services in Western Canada.
The historic helicopter that launched STARS now rests at Calgary’s Hangar Flight Museum, celebrating four decades of life-saving service and community support.
