Microplastic Exposure: Seafood Not the Main Culprit

Research led by Ted Henry, professor at Heriot-Watt University, suggests that people are more likely to ingest microplastics from bottled water and indoor air than from eating seafood.

A study published in Environmental Science & Technology Letters found that eating seafood contributes just 1–10 microplastic particles per day, comparable to other foods like chicken.

More than 70% of scientific and media reports on microplastics in food have focused on seafood

Author's summary: Seafood is not a major source of microplastic exposure.
