A woman in Southern California was removed from a Gold’s Gym following a widely circulated encounter with a transgender person in the women’s locker room. The incident drew attention online, leading fitness influencer Joey Swoll to comment on the controversy.
According to her account, recording artist Tish Hyman was undressing inside the locker room when she noticed a naked transgender woman nearby. Startled, Hyman reportedly addressed the individual as "sir," to which the person responded with a heated remark asserting her gender identity.
“You can’t tell me nothing, b****, I’m a woman.”
Hyman described her reaction and confusion in a follow-up statement shared online.
“I was naked, drying and oiling up, and I turn around — there’s a man in the locker room. Of course I’m shocked. I thought maybe I missed a sign or there were workers inside. I just said, ‘sir,’ and he goes, ‘You can’t tell me nothing, B-word, I’m a woman.’ I don’t hate anyone; I’ve simply never experienced something like this in my life. I started screaming and asking for help.”
In a video shared on November 6, 2025, fitness advocate Joey Swoll responded to the incident, emphasizing that women voicing discomfort in such spaces should not automatically be labeled as transphobic. His comments aimed to promote empathy and understanding for all individuals using public gym facilities.
Hyman later stated that her membership was revoked as a result of the confrontation.
