The Las Vegas Raiders' starting quarterback, Geno Smith, left the Week 10 primetime game against the Denver Broncos due to an injury but managed to return despite visible discomfort. This season with Smith as QB1 has not unfolded exactly as hoped, yet the experienced player has worked to improve the team's performance in recent weeks.
In Week 9, Smith spearheaded the Raiders' efforts during a close overtime loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, connecting for three touchdowns with tight end Brock Bowers. His strong play has made Las Vegas a more formidable opponent.
During the "Thursday Night Football" game, Smith was approaching 100 passing yards in a tight defensive contest with the Broncos holding a 10-7 lead in the fourth quarter. Early in the final quarter, while scrambling on first down, Smith was tackled by Denver’s Nik Bonitto, taking a hit near his right knee.
“Smith remained on the ground in some pain after being tackled, then went to the blue medical tent.”
After an additional hit from another Broncos defender, Smith was able to walk to the sideline, visibly limping, and was replaced by backup quarterback Kenny Pickett. Despite the pain, Smith returned to the field to continue playing.
The Raiders ultimately lost the game 10-7 to the Broncos.
Geno Smith’s injury caused concern but did not prevent him from briefly returning to the game, highlighting his resilience amid a challenging season for the Raiders.
Author’s note: Geno Smith’s determination to play through injury underscores his commitment to help the Raiders improve despite setbacks this season.
