Texas Democrat Jasmine Crockett Considering Senate Run

Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett from Texas revealed in a recent interview that she is seriously evaluating a potential campaign for the U.S. Senate. The conversation took place on Politico’s “The Conversation,” hosted by Dasha Burns.

“I’m seriously weighing it to the extent that I’m about to spend a lot of money to get data,” Crockett said. “I’m a data-driven person. I believe Texas needs to try something different if we want different results. That’s the bottom line.”

No Democrat has won a Senate race in Texas since 1988. Senator John Cornyn, a Republican, is running for reelection next year in pursuit of a fifth term. Crockett mentioned that her decision would likely come close to the filing deadline, noting the high hurdles ahead for any Democratic candidate.

“I’mma be flat-out with you and tell you that I don’t think there’s a Democrat that can take out Cornyn,” she said.

She also suggested that the National Republican Senatorial Committee is heavily investing in Cornyn’s campaign to strengthen his primary bid, though The National News Desk reported that it could not confirm that claim, and the NRSC did not respond to inquiries about its spending.
