Fans are sharing first impressions of the improved Xbox Cloud Gaming service. Videos reveal that demanding open-world games like The Witcher 3 stream smoothly at 1440p resolution.
The enhanced cloud gaming option is available exclusively through the higher-priced Xbox Game Pass Ultimate plan. Its performance rivals some GeForce Now subscriptions, providing a compelling alternative despite Microsoft's recent Xbox Game Pass price hikes.
"With the Xbox Cloud Gaming beta period over, some titles are showcasing higher resolutions and frame rates."
Jez Corden of Windows Central showcased how Xbox Cloud Gaming now rivals Nvidia GeForce Now. The premium tier at $29.99 per month offers 1440p graphics, while Essential and Premium plans provide cloud gaming at reduced quality and longer wait times.
Corden tested multiple Xbox Cloud Gaming titles using the ROG Xbox Ally handheld device. The Witcher 3 ran at 2560 x 1440 resolution, maintaining a stable 60 frames per second. He described the experience as a “night and day” improvement, with latency barely noticeable.
"Described as a 'night and day' difference from previous streaming sessions, any latency was also hard to detect."
However, only a limited selection of games currently supports this enhanced performance level.
Author's summary: The upgraded Xbox Cloud Gaming in Game Pass Ultimate now streams select games at 1440p/60fps, offering a strong alternative to GeForce Now despite a limited game selection.
