UK-based Zaha Hadid Architects has shared images of a striking high-rise building under construction in Shenzhen. This building will serve as the headquarters for the Chen Yidan Foundation, an education charity founded by entrepreneur and Tencent co-founder Chen Yidan.
The Yidan Center has officially topped out and features two towers with curving floor plates that connect at the top. A bridge element links the towers partway up, adding architectural interest and functionality.
Designed to foster innovation in education, the center will include spaces for academic research, cultural events, and exhibitions.
The building's rippling form is inspired by the mountainous terrain around Shenzhen and is located near Qianhai Bay. It is clad in glazing and horizontal louvres that provide solar shading to enhance energy efficiency.
“The void between the towers is designed to resemble a canyon, drawing inspiration from the surrounding landscape.”
A low-level structure with planted terraces curves around the high-rise, while staircases lead visitors over the roof to an open area between the towers. A circular skylight in the floor here admits natural light into the lower interior spaces.
The Yidan Center combines innovative architectural design with functional spaces aimed at supporting education and research initiatives led by the Chen Yidan Foundation.
