Ted Jin, founder and CEO of AuX Labs, is advancing food technology with a mission focused on global sustainability and climate action. Since its inception around 2022, AuX Labs has been innovating by producing recombinant casein from yeast through precision fermentation, creating animal-free dairy ingredients.
Jin's path to biotech was shaped by a decade working in consumer packaged goods at Procter & Gamble and PepsiCo, as well as earlier startup experience. His drive stems not from personal dietary choices like vegetarianism or veganism, but from a commitment to resolving food system issues to support a growing population expected to reach 10 billion.
"We aren't in a position that we can expand traditional animal agriculture," Jin explained, highlighting limited land and resource availability.
AuX Labs focuses on creating a casein powder that matches the animal-derived protein in both function and nutrition. This is achieved by genetically engineering yeast to produce the protein through fermentation. The aim is to offer a protein option that maintains taste, cost-effectiveness, and nutritional integrity without compromising quality.
Jin emphasized that their product is intended to supplement, not replace, traditional animal agriculture.
