“I just found out and it's a nice recognition,” said Mateo Retegui after his match-winning performance in Al Qadsiah’s 4-0 victory over Al Kholood on Thursday night. “I think it’s for all the effort and all the desire I've been putting in for a long time. I’m calm, always with the feet on the ground, humble - and I want to keep growing. Keep being like this: humble, training a lot, always to learn, and grow.”
At just 26 years old, Retegui has had a remarkable 15 months. The Italy international was the top scorer in the 2023-24 Serie A season, scoring 25 goals in 36 appearances and helping Atalanta secure third place.
