The Pittsburgh men’s basketball team opened the 2025-26 season with a 74-59 victory over Youngstown State on Monday night at the Petersen Events Center.
After trailing in the early moments, the Panthers grabbed their first lead at 20-19 through a three-point play by Cameron Corhen. The Penguins responded with a 6-0 run, but Pitt’s defense tightened to shift momentum permanently.
In the final minutes of the first half, Youngstown State struggled, shooting just 1-for-7 and committing three turnovers. Pitt capitalized with a decisive 14-3 surge, entering halftime ahead 34-28. Corhen’s three-pointer at 30-28 gave the team the lead for good, and Damarco Minor closed the half by scoring four straight points — two from free throws and a baseline jumper.

During the second half, the Panthers pushed their advantage into double digits. Although Youngstown State cut the deficit to 54-50 with a short run, Pitt maintained composure and finished strong to secure its fourth consecutive season-opening win.
