Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Alex Vesia and his wife Kayla announced the heartbreaking passing of their baby daughter, Sterling. The couple shared the news on Friday through an emotional message on Instagram.
“Our little angel, we love you forever and you’re with us always. Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday, October 26th. There are no words to describe the pain we’re going through, but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her.”
Vesia expressed gratitude to the Dodgers organization and the broader baseball community for their compassion and support during this tragic period.
“Thank you to the Dodgers for their understanding and support. Our baseball family showed up for us, and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them. Thank you Dodger Nation, the Blue Jays organization, and all baseball fans for your love and support.”
He also thanked medical professionals at Cedars-Sinai for their care during the family's difficult experience. Vesia shared a poignant black-and-white photo of Sterling’s tiny hand resting on top of her parents’ hands.
The cause of Sterling’s death has not been disclosed. Vesia had been away from the team since October 23, when the Dodgers announced he and Kayla were dealing with a deeply personal matter. Kayla was in her third trimester at the time.
