At a November 5 screening of her new film Eternity, Elizabeth Olsen revealed the habit that keeps her grounded. For the past three years, the actress has written in a journal every morning.
Olsen, 36, describes journaling as an essential part of her self-care routine. She told PEOPLE,
“I journal in the morning.”She explained that sometimes her entries reflect on the previous day, sometimes on what she’s currently reading — encompassing a variety of thoughts and experiences.
The daily practice serves as a way to slow down her mind. Olsen added,
“You slow down your thoughts, I think, when you start writing by hand.”
For projects including her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the film Eternity, Olsen finds journaling especially valuable. It helps her uncover creative insights and deepen her character development.
She said,
“It's really helpful for work. I have three different journals. I have a work journal that's separate for [creating a] character.”
Olsen attended the film’s special screening with her husband, Robbie Arnett.
“Sometimes it's just what happened yesterday. Sometimes it's about what I'm reading. It’s kind of everything,” Olsen explained about her journaling.
