Mike Smith, known for portraying Bubbles in the Canadian comedy series "Trailer Park Boys," has been charged with sexual assault. The charge, filed on October 2 in Nova Scotia provincial court, stems from an alleged incident in Dartmouth on December 30, 2017.
The show, a mockumentary-style comedy, originally aired in 2001 on Canada's Showcase network before being picked up by Netflix in 2014. Smith starred alongside John Paul Tremblay and Robb Wells, and the series has produced over 100 episodes as well as several films and spin-offs.
“We are aware of the allegation concerning Mike Smith,” said Trailer Park Boys Inc. in a statement to CBC. “Out of respect for the legal process, we will not comment further on the case.”
The company also confirmed that Smith has stepped down from his role as managing director, with Gary Howsam assuming those responsibilities.
The case remains under legal review as proceedings continue in Nova Scotia.
