The episode opened with a New York City mayoral debate featuring Miles Teller as Andrew Cuomo, Ramy Youssef as Zohran Mamdani, and Shane Gillis as Curtis Sliwa. It was the funniest cold open of the season and arguably Shane Gillis’s best moment on SNL to date.
The sketch was impressive, though James Austin Johnson’s Trump character was also brought in. Even he had a memorable line:
“I have good brain. I took a cognitive test and I did so well that they immediately gave me an MRI.”
Hopefully, Mamdani’s (hopeful) victory means we’ll see more of Youssef in the future.
Score: 7 out of 10
Miles Teller delivered a decent monologue with good energy. After losing his house in the Pallisades fire, he seemed slightly more humble this time. Interestingly, he didn’t mention his upcoming movie Eternity scheduled for release later this month.
Score: 5 out of 10
This sketch started the main show with another game show format, where hungover contestants guess what they did the previous night. The idea was solid, but the execution was mediocre. The writers continue to struggle with introducing twists, making the sketches feel too predictable.
Score: 5 out of 10
Miles Teller portrayed both of the Property Brothers helping the White House with renovations. Unfortunately, this sketch felt more depressing than funny, hitting a little too close to home.
Score: 6 out of 10
This parody public service announcement about hockey was surprisingly funnier than expected.
“It was funnier than it had any right to be.”
Author's Summary: Shane Gillis stands out as a highlight on an SNL episode hosted by Miles Teller, where solid sketches mix with uneven comedy performances.
