Nikita Zadorov is a player you don't want to challenge, whether on the ice or online. New York Islanders defenseman Matthew Schaefer experienced this firsthand Thursday night when Zadorov, a Boston Bruins defenseman, forcefully checked him at UBS Arena.
Midway through the second period, with the Islanders leading 1-0, Zadorov delivered a hard hit that slammed Schaefer into the boards. As Schaefer rose, holding onto Zadorov’s stick, Zadorov shoved him back to the ice, sparking a melee. Islanders players rushed to Schaefer's defense amid the chaos.
“I looked at my PIMs from last year,” Zadorov joked to reporters on Long Island afterwards. “I need to get them up this year.”
Following the incident, Islanders fans swarmed Zadorov’s Instagram with messages, showing their support for Schaefer and reacting to the physical play.
Zadorov's aggressive style sparked a physical showdown and online uproar, highlighting his tough presence on and off the ice.
