Potential Super Typhoon to Enter Philippine Area of Responsibility This Weekend

The tropical depression currently situated outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) is moving west-northwest while preserving its strength, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The center of the tropical depression is estimated to be 1,770 km east of northeastern Mindanao. It carries maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center, with gusts reaching up to 70 km/h. The system is advancing at a speed of 15 km/h.

Forecasted Path and Intensification

PAGASA predicts the tropical depression will enter PAR by late Friday or early Saturday and will be named Uwan, marking the 21st cyclone in the country this year.

The weather disturbance is expected to rapidly strengthen and may escalate to a super typhoon category before making landfall over Northern or Central Luzon early next week.

Warnings and Safety Precautions

As early as Friday evening or Saturday morning, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals are likely to be issued for the eastern parts of Luzon and Samar Provinces to prepare for strong winds and heavy rainfall.

“The highest possible alert under the current forecast scenario could reach Signal No.,” PAGASA warned.

The situation requires close monitoring as the weather system poses a significant threat to the Philippines.

Author's Summary

The tropical depression named Uwan is expected to enter the Philippines soon, rapidly intensify, and possibly become a super typhoon, prompting early weather warnings in affected regions.
