Felipe Massa is waiting for a judge’s ruling regarding his lawsuit against Bernie Ecclestone, the FIA, and Formula One Management related to the 2008 Formula 1 World Championship.
After three days of hearings held in London, the court announced that a decision will be made later on whether Massa’s $82 million compensation claim will proceed to a full trial.
The former Ferrari driver argues he was unfairly denied the 2008 title due to the “Crashgate” scandal at the Singapore Grand Prix. In that incident, Renault driver Nelson Piquet Jr deliberately crashed to benefit his teammate Fernando Alonso.
Massa started the race from pole position but lost points after a pit-stop error during the Safety Car period triggered by the crash.
“Massa was ‘cheated’ out of the title and lost big earnings and sponsorships.”
“Massa’s claim is ‘overly ambitious’ and a misguided attempt to reopen the 2008 championship.”
Author’s summary: Felipe Massa’s pursuit of justice for the disputed 2008 F1 title hinges on the court’s upcoming decision on whether his compensation claim will be allowed to proceed to a full trial.
