The McDonald’s branch on Newmarket Road in Cambridge is seeking permission to open its doors an hour earlier each day. The fast food restaurant has previously had similar requests denied twice by local authorities.
Currently operating from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week, the restaurant aims to extend its hours to begin at 6 a.m., maintaining the same closing time. The request was submitted by Savills on behalf of McDonald’s.
“The extension is not considered to result in any unacceptable impact on surrounding residents,” wrote Savills, explaining that nearby businesses have varying hours of operation.
As an example, Savills noted that Papa John’s in the same area trades until 3 a.m. every day. The firm argued that an extra hour of morning operation is a reasonable extension that aligns with local commercial activity.
“We therefore anticipate that the proposal is entirely acceptable in terms of the extra hour of operation in the early morning trading period as no complaints have been received.”
According to Savills, most of the restaurant’s customers arrive during the early morning. The company emphasized the economic benefits that could result from slightly expanding operating hours.
The Cambridge McDonald’s on Newmarket Road is requesting longer hours, aiming to open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., citing minimal impact on neighbors and potential economic gains.
