Franklin & Marshall College cancelled all classes on Monday following a major transformer breakdown that left most of the campus without electricity over the weekend.
According to a college spokesperson, a transformer on Harrisburg Pike failed on Saturday morning, triggering widespread power cuts across campus facilities and nearby neighborhoods.
Peter Durantine, the college’s director of media relations, said crews had hoped to restore electricity by Sunday evening, but the repair process was more complex than expected. As a result, classes and campus events were officially cancelled for Monday.
“We apologize for the continued disruption and the inconvenience this has caused,” Durantine said in a Sunday evening statement. “Our teams, together with PPL Electric, are working around the clock to complete repairs and restore normal operations as soon as possible.”
Durantine confirmed that restoration work would extend into Monday and advised faculty and staff to remain off campus, working remotely when feasible.
