Penny Lancaster Shares Emotional Family Moments with Rod Stewart
Penny Lancaster opened up about her family life with her husband, legendary singer Sir Rod Stewart, revealing the challenges of early parenthood and tender family moments that shaped their relationship.
A Love Story That Began in 1999
Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster met in 1999, and their relationship steadily grew stronger. After several years together, Rod proposed during a romantic trip to Paris in 2005. They married two years later, in 2007, at the medieval monastery La Cervara in Portofino, Italy.
Building a Family Together
The couple has two sons, Alastair and Aiden. Initially, Rod, who already had six children, was hesitant to become a father again. However, his perspective changed when their first son was born. In fact, he named one of his tours the Alastair Wallace Stewart Tour, scheduling flights around his son's nap times.
Motherhood Challenges and Comfort in Music
In her book Someone Like Me, Penny describes the difficult early months after Alastair’s birth. She recalls having his Moses basket beside their bed and struggling with the baby's colic.
“Every afternoon at exactly 4pm he’d give a shrill scream that sounded as though he was dying. In the end the only thing that would calm him was the sound of Rod’s Great American Songbook collection gently playing. I can only think that hearing it took Alastair back to the security of the womb, as I’d been in the studio to listen to Rod recording when I’d been pregnant.”
The family eventually found calm through music, strengthening the bond between father, mother, and child through the familiar sounds that once filled the recording studio.
Anniversary Milestone
Earlier this year, Penny, 54, and Rod, 80, celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary, reflecting on a partnership marked by love, resilience, and harmony both on and off stage.
