J.J. Watt has been the CBS No. 2 analyst this season, working alongside Ian Eagle to call many Steelers games, including those featuring his brother T.J. Watt. Despite the obvious challenges of commentating on games involving a close relative, Watt says the experience is easier than expected.
“Honestly, it’s not nearly as bad as I think people think it would be,” Watt shared on The Dan Patrick Show. “You’re up there, and I know how to be professional. I talk to him before the game. But, during the game, Ian handles the play-by-play anyway, so I have like a 3 or 4 second where he makes a strip-sack fumble, where Ian is doing his job really well, and then I break down the play.”
Watt expressed gratitude for the opposing fans' understanding and fairness throughout the broadcasts.
“From the fan reaction, I’m very appreciative of all the opposing fans who have been so kind because I have consciously tried to keep it extremely unbiased.”
In the recent Steelers versus Colts game, J.J. Watt made a significant impact with a strip-sack fumble recovery in the second quarter. This play contributed to Pittsburgh forcing six turnovers and securing a 27-20 victory, ending a two-game losing streak.
Ian Eagle called the action live, while J.J. Watt provided post-play analysis, completing their professional dynamic smoothly and without controversy.
J.J. Watt balances professionalism with family ties while appreciating the respect shown by opposing fans during his broadcasts.
