Jet2, the UK's third-largest airline and leading tour operator, has announced a major new base at London Gatwick Airport, the nation's second-busiest travel hub. The announcement was made on 12 November 2025 and represents Jet2’s 14th UK base.
According to Jet2 and airport representatives, this move marks the most significant new airline base launch at Gatwick in the 21st century. The expansion is expected to reshape the leisure travel market across the South East and has already drawn strong attention from the aviation community.
The airline’s first flight from Gatwick is scheduled for 26 March 2026, bound for Tenerife in the Canary Islands. This strategic selection leverages the steady demand among British travelers for Mediterranean and European vacation spots.
In total, Jet2 will connect Gatwick passengers to 29 sun-drenched destinations across these countries.
“This launch is being described as the largest new airline base of this century at Gatwick,” said Jet2 and airport officials.
The timing aligns with easyJet’s 30th anniversary, sending a clear message that Jet2 aims to compete with established carriers. At present, easyJet accounts for 44% of Gatwick’s passenger traffic, according to FlightGlobal.
Jet2’s new Gatwick base signals a confident expansion, offering 29 sunny routes and intensifying competition at one of the UK's key airports.
