The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has dismantled a Lagos-based drug syndicate accused of disguising Canadian Loud, a powerful variety of cannabis, as imported Christmas cookies and snacks.
According to the NDLEA, two suspects were arrested during the operation, which revealed a sophisticated packaging process meant to deceive buyers and customs officers. The agency stated that the products appeared to be festive treats but contained controlled substances intended for distribution during the holiday season.
Officials discovered several packages labeled as Christmas-themed edibles. Upon inspection, they found that the cookies and other baked goods were infused with cannabis derivatives. NDLEA operatives traced the origin of the substances to foreign suppliers, suggesting an international smuggling network.
"What appeared to be simple holiday treats turned out to be a dangerous attempt to circulate illicit drugs disguised as festive gifts," the agency spokesperson said.
The NDLEA noted that the arrests highlight rising creativity among traffickers who attempt to exploit seasonal celebrations to distribute illegal substances. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to combat drug trafficking and warned that all those involved would face prosecution under Nigerian law.
