Piers Morgan, author of Woke Is Dead, speaks to Newsnight about his definition of “woke,” maintaining his relationship with Donald Trump and the US President’s impact on UK politics. Interview by Victoria Derbyshire. In relation to comments about leaving Good Morning Britain, ITV has said it was Morgan's decision to leave Good Morning Britain and the company accepted this decision. I think he actually handles Donald Trump on a personal level very well. Did he take any advice from you about it? I wouldn't go into that but I have had conversations with him about it. Yeah. So yeah. Well, I've had conversations with him... But I think giving him the second state dinner and state visit was a master stroke. It played to Trump's vanity. It played to his love of the royal family. I spoke to him the next morning and we had quite a long chat about it and he was really blown away by he loves the pomp and ceremony and the splendor but he... business and in the end the UK did a pretty good trade deal with him comparative to many other countries that dug their heels in, you got to kind of do the art of the deal with him.
