Sikorsky’s unmanned U-HAWK is a UH-60L minus the cockpit

Sikorsky's Unmanned U-HAWK Helicopter

Sikorsky's newest helicopter is an unmanned version of its UH-60L Black Hawk, stripped of its cockpit to carry more cargo and keep aircrew out of harm's way.

The U-HAWK features a modified airframe with clamshell doors and a ramp, replacing the traditional cockpit. The aircraft is equipped with the company's MATRIX autonomous technology, allowing a ground operator to fly it using a tablet.

Company officials hope the U.S. and other militaries see the remotely piloted U-HAWK as a useful new variant of the venerable airframe.

The U-HAWK is touted as a variant that can carry more while freeing up aircrew, making it a potential solution as the Army considers retiring its Black Hawks.
