Dr. Heather Parsons to Lead Fred Hutch's Breast Cancer Initiatives
Medical oncologist Dr. Heather Parsons, MD, MPH, has a personal understanding of the impact of cancer on families, having witnessed her younger sister's diagnosis with lymphoma as a young adult.
Her sister's experience with cancer, which was initially incorrectly stated as melanoma, had a profound effect on Dr. Parsons, leading her to pursue a career in oncology, specifically breast cancer treatment and research.
Years later, her sister now thriving, Parsons remembers her sister's diagnosis and treatment as a challenging time for her family.
Dr. Parsons' goal is to improve the experience of cancer patients and their families, and she has joined Fred Hutch Cancer Center as the program head of the Breast Oncology Program to achieve this.
