Eastgate Elementary will host the first Panther Opening Chess Tournament on October 18 from 9:00 a.m., gathering 80 to 120 young chess players from grades K-12.
The event will represent at least 15 schools, including those from the Kennewick School District, with some bringing full teams and others individual competitors.
This is the second chess tournament hosted by Eastgate, following the success of last spring's Panther Endgame event.
“We’re thrilled to see so many students coming together to compete, learn and have fun,”
said Brian Talbot, Eastgate 4th Grade Dual-Spanish Teacher and tournament media contact.
The event highlights the growing interest in chess in the region.
