Algiers Neighbors Mourn L.B. Landry Student

Dozens of people gathered in front of the Forest Park Apartments to mourn 17-year-old Jyran Johnson, the L.B. Landry High School student who was fatally shot on October 6.

The New Orleans Police Department has not publicly identified a suspect or motive for the murder. However, the victim's mother, Janita Johnson, said her son was gunned down during an argument outside the apartment complex.

"The neighbors were hollering, 'There's a body out here. There's a body out here,'" she said. "And when they flipped him over, it was my son. I'm trying to figure out why it was my son."

A small memorial for Jyran Johnson was visible outside the apartment complex, where his body was found face down on the sidewalk, still in his school uniform.
