Incidents at Butler County Correctional Facility Prompt Review
Following a series of unrelated incidents at the Butler County Correctional Facility, Sheriff David Scruggs announced that his office is reviewing policies and procedures to enhance safety for both inmates and staff.
One incident involved three inmates being found unresponsive inside the jail, who were then transported to Regional Medical Center for evaluation.
“The jail called and advised that there were three unresponsive inmates and they sent them to the ER,”Scruggs said. He personally visited the ER to assess the situation.
The hospital was unable to determine the cause of the incident or if narcotics were involved.
“They were not treated for anything,”Scruggs explained.
Sheriff Scruggs is considering improvements to staff and inmate safety.
