China accused the United States of "double standards" after President Donald Trump announced a new 100% tariff on Chinese goods.
"The relevant US statement is a typical example of 'double standards',"
an unnamed Chinese Ministry of Commerce spokesperson said. This response came after President Trump unveiled the tariffs, set to begin on November 1, as a reaction to China's new export restrictions on rare-earth minerals.
President Trump stated that the tariffs are a response to China's "extraordinarily aggressive" actions and will be levied "over and above any tariff they are currently paying".
The effective date of the tariffs may arrive sooner, depending on further Chinese actions.
