Brief Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Reduces Suicide Attempts by Veterans

Military personnel and veterans reporting recent suicidal ideation and/or suicidal behaviors can benefit from brief cognitive behavioral therapy (BCBT), which reduces suicide attempts, according to a study.

BCBT significantly lowers the risk and rate of suicide attempts among U.S. military personnel and veterans with recent suicidal ideation or behaviors compared to present-centered therapy.

Both therapies reduce suicidal ideation, but BCBT shows greater effectiveness in preventing suicide attempts, with a hazard ratio of 0.25 and a risk ratio of 0.24.

This study highlights the importance of effective therapy in preventing suicide attempts among military personnel and veterans.
Author's Summary

BCBT reduces suicide attempts in veterans and military personnel.
