Construction crews are now placing concrete on the bridge deck for the new westbound structure as part of the Brooks Bridge replacement project on Okaloosa Island.
The concrete will undergo a seven-day “wet cure” hydration process to reach maximum strength and durability. This involves spraying water lightly over the surface and laying a wet, saturated fabric on top to keep it consistently moist.
The Florida Department of Transportation is overseeing the project.
The current bridge, which opened in 1966, is being replaced to improve traffic flow and safety.
