This once dark, cramped Cornish cottage got a bright and airy update

A Cornish Cottage Transformation

This 19th-century Cornish cottage, originally built for farmworkers, has undergone a significant update.

Owner Louise Stewart inherited the cottage, which had been in her family since the 1970s, and decided to renovate it after years of rental use had taken its toll.

‘It was looking quite neglected, but I was sentimental about the cottage, so I set about a renovation, which posed challenges as I would have to manage the project remotely,’

she says. With the help of local interior designer Lydia Allen, the renovation involved raising the ceilings and reconfiguring the floorplan, resulting in a bright and airy space.

The cottage's exterior retains its charming character, featuring local stone, a slate roof, and a quaint front porch entrance.
