WVU Defense Focuses on Tackling and Basics During Bye

The West Virginia University (WVU) defense has been working on tackling and basics during their bye week. Typically, each position group practices tackling within their own group, but this time they mixed it up.

Defensive coordinator Zac Alley brought in scout team wide receivers and running backs for the defensive players to practice tackling. This change was made because tackling had been an issue in the first six games.

“Linebackers aren’t as shifty as a true running back, or a receiver or something like that,”

said linebacker Ben Cutter. The team practiced making real scenario tackles, including open field tackles.

The bye week provided an opportunity for the WVU defense to focus on fundamentals and improve their tackling skills.
