For the Record, Op. 355

Welcome to "For the Record," Violinist.com's weekly roundup of new releases of recordings by violinists, violists, cellists and other classical musicians.

This week's featured artists include Hyeyoon Park, Adrian Butterfield, Zehetmair Quartet, JACK Quartet, Carpe Diem String Quartet, and Erin James.

Hyeyoon Park: Silenced

South Korean violinist Hyeyoon Park, winner of the 2009 ARD International Music Competition, presents a program featuring two composers who faced opposition from their respective political environments.

Dimitri Shostakovich’s First Violin Concerto was banned for its "formalist distortions" and premiered in 1955, only after Stalin’s death.

Hyeyoon Park's program also includes Henriëtte Bosmans' Concert Piece for Violin and Orchestra, composed in grief, which is introspective and bitter in tone. Bosmans' work was banned after she refused to join the Nazi-aligned Kultuurkamer.

Author's summary: New classical music releases featuring violinists and other musicians.
