Raytheon is investing $53 million in new production facilities to meet growing demand for the LTAMDS radar for Patriot systems, designed to enhance air and missile defense capabilities against hypersonic threats.
The new facilities, spanning 23,000 square feet, will produce LTAMDS radars that operate alongside the Patriot air defense system to detect and track hypersonic threats, including Russia's Kinzhal missiles.
Company representatives told Defense News they had received dozens of inquiries about the new radar.
The system has only recently received approval from the U.S. Army for small-scale production and is still undergoing testing, such as operational testing in real conditions in Guam.
